Movement Therapy - All You Need is Your Body

How do you do Movement Therapy? Well, you know that body you’re sitting in there, hunched down in front of the computer screen? First, straighten up. Second, move it!

Movement therapy is just the term we use to categorize things you can do to improve your health by moving your body. It’s important to keep a balanced approach to all aspects of your health. We all know very well that having some sort of regular movement routine contributes exponentially to overall well-being. Exercising regularly, in a way and quantity that’s suitable for you, is a way of activating and balancing pretty much all the systems of your body, from the cardiovascular system to the nervous system to even the digestive and lymphatic systems.

Moving around helps you tone muscle, drop fat, and lose weight, but it can have profound emotional and spiritual benefits as well. Some people practice the techniques discussed here as moving meditations and prefer to do these over the more stereotypical seated meditation practice. So if you’re ever feeling stressed out or pressured by the weight of the world, remember that simply moving your body is a great stress relief and relaxation technique. It’s a natural anxiety remedy that costs nothing and is immediately effective. Even just getting up from your chair at the office every half hour and stretching for 30 seconds will do wonders for your circulation and mental clarity!

All of the techniques we talk about here can be modified for your personal level. Don’t be deterred and think you can’t exercise because of an achy back or knee injuries. Done in a gentle, progressive manner, any of the following movement systems can help to strengthen and heal injured tissue and restore the body to balance.

So get moving!
